Nokia 6500 Slide iSync plug-in
I just bought a Nokia 6500 Slide… My old N80 died and I needed a good phone waiting for the iPhone to hit the norwegian market. Great phone btw but with no iSync support, so I modified and made this plugin Nokia 6500 Slide iSync plug-in. If you run Snow Leopard Peter Sommerlad has kindly provided an updated plugin here.To make it work, unzip and the the folder “Nokia6500s-1.phoneplugin” in ../library/phoneplugins and start iSync and add your phone. Make sure your bluetooth is enabled on both Mac and phone. Then just sync away…(…or you could just wait for the iPhone).
Update:
Some people have problems syncing after Apples latest OSX update and/or a newer firmware for the phone than me. I have not been able to find out why, and it seem others that have made a plugin can not come around it either. I am now using a iPhone and only use my Nokia when I am drunk or painting the house, so i will not spend more time on updating it. For people with problems I will recommend to only sync one way; from your computer to the phone. Thank you!

Great work! I mwas about to buy the 6500 slide yesterday but didn’t do it because it couldn’t sync with my ibook. And now for a (probably) stupid questian: with your plugin, can I sync ical and other stuff with the phone?
Comment by Andreas — October 21, 2007 @ 18:12
Yes it works without any problems so far. The only thing I can´t sync is the pictures in my phonelist… but that is not that important… and the phone is very nice!
Comment by shl — October 21, 2007 @ 18:43
Hey, came across this from google, is this iSync2.4 or iSync 2.3?
Comment by JYC — October 25, 2007 @ 9:07
It is 2.4, I have no means of thesting it on 2.3, but it could work. I am hoping that Nokia comes with their own soon though… to also support syncing with pictures. But it works for now…

will this work with USB? Any suggestions as I can’t seem to be able to make it work!

Hi
I didn’t have the phoneplugins folder so I created it – hope that’s right! Also, should this work with the USB connection, as mine doesn’t seem to!
Thanks

Thanks – Works Great – Loved the 6500 Slide – Was just fed up that I couldn’t sync with the Mac.
Thanks again

Do you think this will work on the Nokia 6500 Classic? Thanks for sharing!

Me again!
Was wondering if anyone has any experience using this plugin with OS X Leopard? I have just upgraded and it seems to have broken!
Andy
Comment by Andy (again!) — November 3, 2007 @ 8:05
Sorry, been traveling…
Andy: The plug-in works fine in my os x leopard. If you used clean install make sure to move it to your new library.
Jack: I don´t know, but i could if you edited the text in the script with the right name for the device. In the file Metaclasses.plist change every entry with “Nokia 6500s-1″ to “Nokia 6500″. It could work.
Good luck!

Hi, I got my Nokia 6500 Slide yesterday and have now installed Nokia 6500 Slide iSync plug-in. I tried to ad the phone to iSync, but it still says it does not support this phone. I did place the plugin in the library in a folder called PhonePlugins.. Please help
Comment by Tanya — November 9, 2007 @ 9:38
It is important that you quit the iSync software between adding the plugin and trying to add the phone. Did you do that?
Comment by shl — November 10, 2007 @ 13:03
Thank you very much, it works! But I had to put in in the Packagecontent of iSync. (Contents/PlugIns/Applephoneconduit.syndevice/Contents/PlugIns)
regards, Stella
Comment by Stella — November 12, 2007 @ 23:14
Thanks a lot, this works like a charm. I simply made a new folder (as it did not exist) called “phoneplugins” in users/../library and it worked right away after i restarted iSync!
Comment by Janne — November 15, 2007 @ 17:06
Hi, did anyone manage to get this working with the 6500 classic?
I tried replacing 6500s with 6500c in the files and renaming the folder – didn’t work. I placed the folder in /Library.., /User/Library/.. and the iSync Package folder. No success…
Damn, it’s really a nice mobile but useless if I can’t synch it…
Comment by stephan — November 16, 2007 @ 19:25
Hi,
I successfully got this working with the 6500 Classic. I put it in ~/Library/PhonePlugins and then show package contents on the plugin and changed every occurrent of 6500s-1 to just 6500. Everywhere! Even the icon. In all files.
then restart iSync and add the device
Comment by Steve — November 17, 2007 @ 1:13
Thanks Steve, but that didn’t work either.
Could you zip your plugin folder and upload it somewhere? Maybe I’m doing something wrong…
But wait – you say u did “show package contents” on the plugin. But this is just a normal folder and no package, isn’t it?
thanks
Comment by stephan — November 17, 2007 @ 10:39
Tried it again and put the folder only to the /Users/…/Library/PhonePlugins folder and now it works.
Thanks!

i Must admit i have never tested on entourage since i don´t use it… Have anyone else had similar problems?
Comment by shl — November 20, 2007 @ 22:15
thanx a lot, the plugin works fine with 10.5.1 (pb g4), and my 6500 slide, the only thing it does not sync are multiple postal adresses (work and private for example). it only syncs the first (upmost) in adressbook, it leaves the others unsynced.
other multiple entries, like mailadresses or phone numbers are synced correctly.
best regards,
sdas.
Comment by sdas — November 30, 2007 @ 13:28
… found the reason, very simple: the 6500 slide does not support multiple adresses. i didn’t think of this in the first place, because my old nokia 6230i did this without any problem. bad luck, may be nokia will add multiple adress-support via softwareupdate
best regards.

I had not realised that my new 6500slide was incompatable with my powerbook and was about to return it when my son suggested a google search for a possible pug-in that led me to your site. Thank you. This is so simple and saved the phone from being thrown back (and in all other respects the phone is pretty good, and I will now wait til the iphone gets a better specification and is available through more carriers, so you’ve saved me £270 at least!!
Thanks again.
Comment by Pete — December 5, 2007 @ 16:22
Ok guys I have just had some trouble getting this to work but one thing I will mention, stick the plugin where it says to at the top (I have it in three locations but I’m guessing that’s unnecessary). Then instead of starting iSync and looking for devices, run the Bluetooth setup and add the device, it should then give you the option of adding the device to iSync, do that, then it should work.

shl, you are a genius!. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. It is great to be able to use this phone for syncing.
I have just one problem that I hope you can advise. I’m using an Intel iMac with OS 10.4.11, iSync 2.4 and a 6500 slide. They talk to each other fine (with transferring data from iCal and Address Book). Only problem is iSync wants to delete entries from my computer at times (from iCal and Address Book). The iMac is the master and the phone is the slave. I don’t make changes to data on the phone. Only on the iMac. I can’t find an option in the preferences to only allow transfers of data from computer to phone. NOT phone to computer. Any ideas? Thank you!
Comment by Jason - Sydney — December 10, 2007 @ 21:44
Hi,
strange problem, but since i am really a designer and not a programmer it could happen:) It is probably a case of your address book contains more fields than the phone support and then data look different. Still I have not been able to replicate the problem on my mac´s.
What you are looking for is just syncing one way. The easiest way to do this i actually to reset the device each time. Then the sync software just fills both your calender and address book. You just select the phone in iSync then choose reset device from the devices menu.
Kind of a temp solution, but will work:) It seem Apple have abounded iSync for other mobiles a little and the choses in the prefs are limited.
Comment by shl — December 11, 2007 @ 12:53
Thanks so much for this elegant solution. I had the same problem with my old Nokia phone and iSync. I bought a piece of software for it which was effective but took too long – so I only used it occasionally. this resulted in lost data – especially when my phone was stolen. A simple click on the sync button will fix that thanks to you…
Comment by David — December 13, 2007 @ 1:11
Awesome, great job…..
My computer just needed a restart, now it works without any problems thanks very much.
Comment by Bert — December 13, 2007 @ 10:52
Great work! Now have to find out if the syncing with iSync does not interfere with the syncing from Google Calendar via gSync…
By the way: if your looking for a handy mobile phone with great functionality, keep this phone and DON’T buy this generation iPhone. I just sold my iPhone because I got fed up with all the problems it has in Europe.

Hi!
It works! At first I extracted the package content and put it in library/phoneplugins . it din work. but i realised perhaps i just dump the whole thing in without extracting, it works! No need to change the name, just create a folder in library/phoneplugins and dump the package 6500s-1 in will work. Thanks alot =DDD

Thanks a lot, this plug-in was a real help to me.
I too purchased a Nokia 6500s today. Like lots of people I wanted to wait on the iPhone but just yesterday my vintage Nokia 6110 suddenly died on me. I needed a phone quick and am happy with this new slider. It makes waiting for the iPhone just a little more bearable..

Hi. Just wanted to drop a note of thank you for the plug in. It’s really been a great help.
Comment by dave — January 7, 2008 @ 16:00
I can’t make this work. Download fine. Dragged into the phoneplugins folder, fine. Open iSync and it still wants to talk to my old phone, but claims that the 6500s isn’t supported. Though while iSync is scanning for devices, the phone briefly says it’s connected to the computer. I may have to throw phone and MacBook out of the window soon. In case I’ve put this in wrongly: In phoneplugins I have Contents; in Contents I have Info.plist and Resources. In Resources I have MetaClasses.plist and NOK6500S-1.tiff. I’ve tried restarting and deleting and downloading again and then restarting. I’m SO envious. I have 295 contacts and can’t face bluetoothing them all from my old phone, which also doesn’t want to sync with this one.
Comment by Jess — January 7, 2008 @ 22:38
OK!! Thank you! You have saved my phone and mac from their first (and last) flying lessons and me from several hours of laborious data entry. It was my dragging and dropping that was the problem, and not quitting iSync when trying again. Path was wrong or iSync was still open. Phew!
Thank you SO much.

Thanks for all your help. Did as per the instruction. But it still wasn’t working. To fix it I went to the bluetooth setup (Set up bluetooth device) and it worked a treat after that. I’m usually pretty good at these little cracks and work around’s. But this one took me all afternoon.. Cheers. Thanks, once again. PHEW!!! I now like my Nokia 6500 slide. Thanx Guys, got the Nokia 6500 Classic to work on my Mac running 10.4.9.- isync 2.4
Downloaded the nokia6500s-1phoneplugin.zip file, Unzipped to disktop. Changed all the file names to say 6500
then opened the MetaClasses.plist file with TextEdit.app, edited all 6500s code-text to 6500, closed TextEdit then just made a folder called Phoneplugins, placed all changed files to that folder then put the Phoneplugins folder in Users/Library.
Pair your 6500 classic via bluetooth the normal way, launch isync and sync away. don’t you just love the power of the information highway.
Thanx to all

The following error appears whenever I try to sync:
[6500s-1] There was an error getting data from the phone. The synchronization may have been cancelled on the phone.
It worked on the first sync, but not sure why it’s not working now. The sync freezes on the phone at a particular calendar record: 173 of 228 items. It might have been a calendar item that I edited but now can’t figure out which it is. Attempted to reset device using isync, also unable to as the sync does not complete. Please help!

Hi,
Thanks a lot for your work!
But… just one question.
Has anyone the problem of calendar entries that last a hole day to be displayed with a duration from 13:00 to 13:00?
Ralf
Comment by Ralf M. — January 22, 2008 @ 23:18
shl: I did the update on windows!
Cheryl Lee: what is you phone’s software version?
Comment by nikzaster — January 23, 2008 @ 3:00
phone software details:
V 04.81
22-11-07
RM-240
The problem is I cannot add new “meetings” to the calendar notes via the phone. If I do, that entry jams the sync process until the phone fore-quits the sync. Deleting and re-installing the phone on iSync, along with deleting all calendar entries on my phone, then re-syncing it all solved this problem. However, being unable to add new calendar items is quite crippling. Would appreciate any help. Thanks!
Comment by Cheryl Lee — January 24, 2008 @ 6:31
Hi,
yes it seem there are a problem with the plugin on phones with a newer firmware. I have not yet been able to update to test. Until then people with the V 04.81 or newer should probably not use the plugin.

would first like to say great work on the plugin but i’ve run into an issue regarding syncing with addressbook. The problem at hand is that contacts from my phone are not able to be transferred onto my macbook. Would appreciate any help. Thanks!
Comment by GC — January 24, 2008 @ 17:46
Hi
@ Cheryl Lee
I have the problem too, syncing notes breaks iSync but only notes, all other calendar entry types work!
After adding a note to the calendar iSync wants to change lots of entries in addressbook, especially those with german umlaute äöü and special characters like ß.
In my case the problem could be resolved by resetting the phone in iSync after deleting the note.

more than one phone!
thanks so much this was a painfree way of getting isync to work with my 6500 slide. I hit a couple of problems which were easily resolved with the help found in comments here.
1) If you do not have a phoneplugins library just create a new folder in the system/library and drag the folder into it.
2) I needed to sync two 6500 phones and only the first worked. The second still showed as not compatible with isync.I resolved this by using the “add bluetooth device” in the bluetooth menu from top right menu and pairing the second phone again which then gave me the option to add to isync device list.
Sorted! Thanks so much
created the phoneplugins folder in my library

Install the phone plugins
Open Address Book. Import Contact (CSV) by text file…
Open iSync…

Hi,
I’ve just got myself a Nokia 6500 slide from orange, the Black version… I’ve put this plugin in the package folder like Stella said, and also in the folder “PhonePlugins” which is a folder i created in the users library folder. Is this download supposed to be put straight in, or extracted in to another folder with the same name? I’ve tried every way I can think of but the phone is still not working, I can’t even get the thing to pair correctly with the computer half the time! It just hit me that it might be because my phone is the black version, rather than the standard version?
Any help on the matter would be really appreciated, at the moment I feel like throwing the phone through the wall, it’s totally useless to me without Isync, my life revolves around isync….
Comment by Graeme — February 15, 2008 @ 18:33
to add to the above, after looking in the back of my phone it has the identical model number as the plugin, therefore I don’t think this is the problem… thanks again

Can i just confirm with anyone who has managed to do it… Do I take the contents folder out of the package and put that in to users/…/library/phoneplugins or do i need to put the whole package as it is downloaded in to that folder?
Thanks

Comment by Graeme (again!) — February 16, 2008 @ 14:47
Graeme,
Hmm, this is what I did:
1. Created a folder named “phoneplugins” in the top Library folder (not the user Library folder but the top one – although it ought to work just as well in the user Library folder)
2. Downloaded the file “nokia6500s-1phoneplugin.zip”
3. Unzipped the file, ending up with a folder named “Nokia6500s-1.phoneplugin”
4. Put the whole thing in the “phoneplugins” folder that i just created
5. Activated Bluetooth on my phone
6. Paired my phone with my computer’s Bluetooth
7. Ran iSync and added my phone
8. Began synching without any problems!
I’ve done the same thing on both an Intel MacBook 10.5.2 and a PowerPC PowerBook 10.4.2 and they both work perfectly.
Maybe you could try creating the phoneplugins folder in the top Library folder instead of the user Library folder?
Did you pair your phone’s and computer’s Bluetooth connections before running iSync?
Good luck!

Hi,
Just as happened to Victor, it worked a charm, made the connection, but only synced the calendar, not the contacts to address book.
I’m on a MacBook 2GHz intel core duo, OS 10.4.11, iSync 2.4.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! You da MAN!

I have a nokia 6500 slide and I had the same problem regarding the sync of the Contacts with iSync. The agenda is sychronising well with iSync so I keep doing the synchronisation of the agenda only with iSync. To manage the contacts and more I found a useful piece of software (around 34 Euros) :
http://www.novamedia.de/e_pages/e_produkte_mac_fl.html
There are two “styles” of synchronisation with this software, I don’t use the synch manager which is unstable. I keep my contacts updated on the phone itself, then copy this to my computer using fonelink, so I am able to read them on my sreen instead of each time taking my phone. After it is always possible to copy the vcards from Fonelink to the Apple address book.
This is not a prefect solution, but it works…
I hope this will help other users.

Followed the instructions to the letter – no problems…..

Hi I have the Nokia 6500 Classic.
I discovered an application inside the XCode 3 tools called “iSync Plugin Maker”. I managed to make plugin for the Nokia. The app did most of the work itself, communicating with the phoen. The longest task was to make the icon.
Here it is:
http://dksp.free.fr/macbidouille/Nokia6500c.dmg
But use at your own risk!

Your plugin doesn’t work on my OSX 10.4.11 v2.4 isynch with Nokia firmware v4.80.

Oh, sorry, I forgot to precise it’s for iSync 3.0 Leopard.

Worked beautifully after several different tries. What worked for me was to create a folder called phoneplugins in user/…/library. I first tried to put the same folder in Library on the first level but that did not work for me. Using Mac Book Pro 2.4 & Leopard.
Thanks a ton. I got the 6500 as free upgrade from Orange but was ready to put it the drawer and go back to my N70 when I saw that the phone did not work with isync.

Thanks for this plugin, Svein
It seems to be working on my new 6500s except that it stops syncing my contacts when it gets to 237 out of 282
Am using iSync 2.4 (501.2) on OSX 10.4.11
I notice someone else (Roman) had had a similar problem where it stopped syncing at 182 contacts
Just wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to fix this because I have made changes to contacts on both address book on my mac and on the phone.
The calendars seem to sync perfectly – much better than on my old Nokia 6230 which seemed to randomly loose entries from time to time

same problem occured here. I could smoothly sync my 6500 slide a couple of times. then all of a sudden I could not sync Contacts any longer: it always stopped at 115/392. also synching the Calendar started to be a problem at the same time: now it wants to sync the all daylong data on iCal to 13 to 13 hours…
I use leopard and only a few days ago I was asked to download my first Software Update package, what I did – I suspect the new bug hides there somewhere, but do not really have a clue. (now on OS 10.5.2)
Comment by Primo — March 24, 2008 @ 22:27
Hi, I got the same issue. My 6500 Slide was working like a dream and then today, all of a sudden, it’s hanging both when I sync my Contacts & my iCal. I really don’t know why this is. Also, for some reason it now wants to sync my entire address book and all the calendar entries, which it didn’t do before.
I’m on Leopard 10.5.2 and iSync 3.0
Bizarre as it was working so well…. HEEEELP!

I’ve tried following the above instructions to the letter at least ten times now or more but I still can’t get my phone to sych up with ical on my macbook pro running leopard.
The weird thing is that my phone does synch with the imac running leopard at work.
I’ve been trying to solve this now for months. PLease help me…
Comment by melly — March 26, 2008 @ 12:42
Dazza:
I opened iSync, activated the Nokia 6500 slide by clicking on it’s icon in iSync.
Then I chose “reset device” under the menu “devices” (at least that’s what I think it is called, since I use the German version: There, the second menu is “Geräte” (according to the Apple Support page it should equal “Devices”); then “Gerät zurücksetzen” (= reset device).
That did the job for me so far (knock on wood). I try again…
Right now, I just did a normal sync to make sure: it worked.
Comment by Primo — March 26, 2008 @ 18:40
A little more detail on the symptoms I’m getting…
I’m using a Macbook Pro (Intel based) running Leopard. The initial sync appears to work fine – there an no error messages. All my contacts appear on the phone but none of the iCal entries are there. During the sync it claims iCal entries are being sent – but they’re not there in the calendar.
On subsequent syncs it dies when the phone is trying to send contacts back to the Mac. I have some 400 contacts and it dies around contact 117. The only solution to this is to delete the phones contact database and start the initial sync again.
I’ve tried re-installing the plug-in in a bunch of different locations but this has no impact on the symptoms I’m getting.
Any suggestions?
Comment by Gabriel — March 26, 2008 @ 22:13
We had the same problem — created a new folder called phoneplugins in /lbrary then hit iSync. Nothing happened.
But then we double-checked the phone. The Slide has an option to “hide” the Bluetooth signal. Once the signal was unhidden, the connection and the sync worked perfectly.
Comment by Moonbeam — March 26, 2008 @ 23:39
Really moonbeam? Where’s the hide option? Surely if it starts (I have the same problem as you) then it has found the phone? I haven’t changed a single setting on my phone since it started syncing and this hanging problem has only risen in the last day.

Still no joy – the phone is still hanging and won’t sync up. I deleted the plugin, deleted my phone form Bluetooth devices, reset my iSync history, downloaded and re-installed the plugin and started again from scratch. I’m REALLY pissed off now. at one point, it even deleted 93 contacts from my address book on my Mac, I could cry! When I bluetoothed an individual contact that had been deleted from my 6500slide to my Mac, it said that the .vcf file wasn’t supported.
Why is this plugin now not working? It worked fine for the first few times. I’m on Leopard 10.5.2 and iSync 3.0
Anyone found a cure for this ‘hanging’ problem yet?
PS There is another guy who has also written a script and his doesn’t work either! I paid for it and have been in touch with him and he very kindly refunded my money. He’s baffled and so am I!!
Svein??!!?

This plug in worked for me (new 6500s & Leopard 10.5.2) which is great – thanks! (I created the new library folder for phoneplugins as suggested)
I have one issue, though – it does not seem to respect Address Book groups – I set it for sync only with a (new, empty) sublist but it has done a full sync with the main list (the sublist remains empty). It did move the correct 91 contacts from phone to mac on first sync (there was the expected box but sadly I failed to check details) but now it has moved them subsequent syncs succeed although the list remains stubbornly empty!
New contacts are moved OK to the phone.
Comment by Will — April 13, 2008 @ 11:46
A quick followup and a suggestion for Dazza/Will. I managed to get the sync working – to a fashion – by:
1) removing the device from iSync
2) going into the Contacts menu on the phone and selecting the “Delete All” option that’s buried in there
3) adding the device back into iSync, and
4) using the option to overwrite data in the phone.
I’ve done this a couple of times now and it seems to work. If the phone fails to load Contacts in the first Sync it seems that neither Phone nor PC recognizes that they’re missing subsequently.
However – not all of my Contacts Sync. Of 330 Contacts only 285 Sync first time. There’s nothing wrong with the Contacts that don’t Sync first time. If I move them to another group on my address book, Sync, and then move them back to my “Phone” group and sync again – “preso” they appear.
I’m wondering if there’s some sort of buffer limit on the Contacts transfer buffer size? Or is there a timeout that I’m inadvertently triggering on first Sync?
Like Dazza – I still get a freeze problem periodically where it dies trying to sync Contact 218 (or thereabouts) but the above fix seems to work.
Comment by Gabriel — April 14, 2008 @ 1:17
Gabrie, cheers for the advice mate.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve removed my device from the Sync AND Bluetooth menues, selected ‘delete all’ and started again – even deleting and reinstalling Svein’s plugin and iSync, to no avail. At the moment, I am able to sync my calender (thank God!) but not my address book.
At one stage during the syncing, it managed to delete 93 entries from my address book, so I now only have them on my phone and I don’t know which ones they are! So I can only do a phone overwrites computer sync or sync al and definitely NOT the other way round as these will be gone forever!
I’m gutted as I now have to writ new contacts on the phone and my Mac every time now, due to this issue. I really must find a way round this hanging problem as I now have nearly 100 contacts missing on my Mac.
Gutted.

Works perfectly.
Like someone else said, you need to create a folder in libray called phoneplugins. I created this under the user library not the root one.
Comment by Chris83 — April 16, 2008 @ 20:42
Yes, I have to agree with Dazza – there is definitely a bug in this somewhere. I suspect it may be related to the number of contacts in my database. When I run tests syncing a handful of contacts (say 50) it seems to work fine, Take it up to 200 and it starts to fail. On first sync I get the message:
• The phone could not store some of your contacts. The following contacts will not be synchronized: Adam Blogs, Dario, Jeff Bloggs, Richard Blogs, David Blogs, and 5 more.
Yet, if I remove them from the names that failed to sync from the Address Book group I’m syncing with – and then add them back in – they appear on the phone OK.
Then, however, on subsequent syncs it hangs when the phone is sending contacts back to the Mac. Always around Contact number 200. This is the point of no return and I’m stuck with wiping the entire contacts database on the phone and starting all over again – as I described above.
Is anybody out there having any success with this – syncing more than say 150 contacts? If so, what phone software and OS software versions are you running with?
Comment by Gabriel — April 17, 2008 @ 1:10
Gabriel,
weird mate… Today I synced my iCal to the slide, which works fine, thankfully and then I thought I’d try to sync the contacts again, which I haven’t tried in a while since all this hanging nonsense started and I spent hours trying to resolve it. Well…. low and behold, it went up to 100% and synced!!
Great you might think, but I checked my Address Book on the Mac and the missing contacts have not been added from the phone. Gutted. Now I really don’t have a clue what’s going on.

For those having trouble! I had lots trouble at first then another site showed me what to do. The key is placing the plugin in the right place.
Go to Applications/isync right click and select “show package contents”
then Contents/Plugins/ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice/Contents/Plugins/
put the Nokia6500s-1.phoneplugin you downloaded from this site in there!
Then close everything up, restart, go to isync, click on add device, and your Nokia slide will appear. Double click on the image of the nokia 6500 and you phone is ready to sync.
BTW i synced 545 contacts without any stoppages or delays.
Many thanks to the person who created this plugin, it fills an important gap. cheers.

Hi all, thanks for the info. I have synchronized the tf agenda but The calendar does not synchronize. The synchronization starts, but gets blocked in the middle of the event transfers and fails after a while. Any help would be most welcome.
Comment by jq — September 8, 2008 @ 15:34
Hi all again. After some trials I have been able to synchronize without problems by ersing first all the calendar events in the mobile. It seems that what was causing the problems was the update of old events, but when the calendar was empty isync reproduced the complete iCal definition on the Mac without problems and a couple of updates of new events in iCal where transferred correctly to the mobile in succeeding synchronizations. This works if you keep the iCal as the only entry point for event definition. I have not tested if updates on the mobile are correctly transferred to iSync, because I do not do it.

Hi all! Thanks for what I guess is a great pugin.
Only problem though is that about halfway through the sync, I get an error message stating: “There was an error getting data from the phone. The synchronization may have been cancelled on the phone.” It happens when iSync is recieveing data.
This happens only when I sync the contacts or contacts and calendar togheter. If i try to only sync the calendar, it works just fine.
I have about 300 contacts on my phone and running firmware 08.30.
My mac is a MacBook Pro running 10.5.4.

Also, i’m not able to sync my calendar. Keep getting the error message mid way through the sync progress “There was an error getting data from the phone. The synchronization may have been cancelled on the phone.” Please help! thanks!

Hi all,
I’m experiencing some problems too when I’m trying to upload my contacts.
I have the following answer “Une erreur est survenue lors de l’obtention des données du téléphone. Il est possible que la synchronisation ait été annulée sur ce dernier.
La synchronisation de l’appareil a échoué”
It says that the problem occurs because the phone and the computer didn’t sychronise correctly.
When I’m starting downloading my contacts it started to download the contact 1 from 99 and 30 seconds after I have the error message above.
Not sure that I’m clear in explaining my problem I had a look to the previous comment but I didn’t find anything.
I hope that you could help me.
cheers.

Fantastic. It took me a while to find the folder I needed to be in. I didn’t realise that searches don’t return results for folders inside package contents (DUH!). Just in case anyone is as stupid as me, find the iSync program file, and then CTRL click and open package contents and then keep double clicking plugins until you get to a folder with a bunch of files named XXXX.phoneplugin and then create the folder and copy the contents folder across into this.
GREAT WORK and thanks for yet again filling in for the holes left by Nokia and Apple.

Finally bought a 6500 Slide yesterday… THEN found it doesn’t work with iSync. I was expecting to change the phone today but after spending the evening Googling and reading phone forums (including Nokia & Apple) I came across your plug-in.
Can’t wait to get home after work to try it!
Thanks in advance

OK made a folder called ‘phoneplugins’ in Users>Library and woohoo!
Worked a treat although 6500Slide (v8.3) finished with “Sync Successful” and the MacBookPro (OSX 10.5.5) finished with “Sync failed”… I’m guessing the info will only flow one-way but at least I have a back up
Thanks shl!

At Last. After months and weeks and today, hours, I got the Nokia icon to appear on iSync. (After I created Phoneplugins folder for Users/library…and dragged Nokia6500s-1 there.) Also, taking advice from above poster, made sure iSync was off.
Also went into iSync and created a Nokia6500-1 folder in packages contents where alll the other compatible phones contents are.
Then the Contacts synced but not the Calendar.
Deleted everything on the mobile phone calendar/organiser.
Then I checked that Bluetooth was discoverable on the iBookG4 10.4.11. Do this even if you’re getting a message saying they are connected.
Then back to iSync to uncheck Contacts and only sync Calendar. Did a reset. And suddenly EVERYTHING in my iBook calendar appeared on the phone.
Magic. Thanks.

Uh oh! Just tried to update Nokia calendar from iCal. It’s gone in the reverse direction and wiped iCal.
Tried again. Message on Nokia – “Data not transferable. Check data connection.”
But Bluetooth on both Make and phone. Both discoverable.
I cleared all calendar notes on phone first.
Now nothing.
New contacts on iBook Address book not syncing.
Alert on Mac:
“Wednesday, 12 November 2008 18:05
[Nokkia] There was an error getting data from the phone. The synchronization may have been cancelled on the phone.
Device synchronization failed”
Why has the problem returned?
Also problems regarding compatibility with JVC and Sony camcorders, even though new Sony uses Minidv. Rapidly going off Apple. Looks beautiful but I’d never recommend it now.

6500C worked great, however, the download (Nokia-6131.phoneplugin) needed to be put in the folder /applications/isync.app/Contents/Plugins/ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice/Contents/Plugins/
referenced on the james-lloyd.com site NOT ~/library/phoneplugins as instructed herein. However, once that was done everything worked great!! the 1st sync added about 400 contacts (80% change) to the phone. All good!
Comment by Steve — November 29, 2008 @ 6:05
6500s does not sync contacts, it stoppes at e.g. 481/560 or smg like that, asking to check data connection. Wierdly, it worked for the first time, but it is not reliable, now I could only make it work by deleting my address book and clean-sync the phone (or maybe 1-way syn would work either.)
Calendar syncing works fine.
Any idea to make BOTH work, both ways?
thx very much
Comment by Gergő — December 2, 2008 @ 0:16
Downloaded the plugin in January and it worked fine both with Tiger and Leopard. Then my Nokia developed a fault and was sent back to Nokia for repair. They have loaded in updated software which has now resulted in all the symptoms of the failed iSyncs. It hangs when loading contacts, but allows me to update iCal and Address book separately!
I have tried all the different solutions here and none have worked.
The only way I managed to do it was to reset the Sync history, and both sync. However, it isn’t an ideal solution.
I don’t think the plug in is the problem, I think Nokia’s updated software may be to blame.
The phone says its software is:
V08.30
03-07-08
RM-240
My Mac is a 2.16 MacBook Pro with Leopard 10.5.5
Hope this adds something

Didn’t work at first; This is how I fixed it:
go to hd > applications > Isync (richtclick: show package content) > content > plugins > content > plugins.
-paste the folder here (Nokia-6500s-1.phoneplugin) amongst all the other phone plugins.
-in all the other nokia plugin folders, you’ll find a file in the content folder called: version.plist copy this file into yours.
this did the trick, I “moved” to mac last week, and the lack of sync usage was the last hurdle holding me back, thanks a lot SHL!

I tried this to sync contacts and I lost most of my contacts on the phone. None of my contacts sem to be stored on my Mac.
Where to look for this? I use Addressbook where I expect to find new contacts that I stored on my phone, but no info shows, except for the info I already have on my Mac.
I use Mac OS X 10.5.7 and a Nokia 6500 Slide, firmware V04.81.
I would really like to restore all my contacts that were deleted form my phone.

Anyone got any idea why this might have happened? My OS is bang up to date 10.6.2.
I have the plugin in both my library and the top level one but it appears that the one in my library is the one beng used as there is also a folder there which updates every time I sync.

Got it to run on 10.6.2 by going to a third location
You have to put it in
iSync.app/Contents/Plugins/ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice/Contents/Plugins
go to Applications and ‘right click’ in the iSync icon to get to Contents>plugins etc
And be in Administrator mode to put it in.
Many thanks

Does anyone know of the fix for iSync hanging midway through synchronization? I have tried pretty much all the fixes suggested in the listed posts but no luck. Thanks
Comment by Harry — April 13, 2010 @ 0:34
My Calendar synced fine but the address book always dies before the end. I have trimmed it and trimmed it thinking it is a the size that is the issue but each time the error comes that this list of names plus x others will not be synced – this seems to be a plug in issue as this does not happen with my 6230 only my 6500s.
Any ideas/fixes yet? It seems to be the non-numeric data that is creating replica names in the sync that seems to be causing it to fall over. ie. more than one entry with same name but one has all the data and the other 1 or more has part of it.
In a last ditch attempt I am trying to use my SIM to copy the names/addresses from one phone to the other but don’t know how that will go…
Comment by Lex — June 7, 2010 @ 0:54
